You Found the Secret Personal Essay! (Not really though lol)

DISCLAIMER: This essay is just and additional fun essay I decided to create (I know it will be awful). If everyone likes this one more than essay #5, I could make this the essay I decide to go forward with this one instead. I mage Idea: Linden Peters Akeel Dixon Mrs. Rodems Nonfiction Writing 4/17/2026 Prompt: Do you like being alone? When/Why I like to Be Alone Some people are probably diving into this essay thinking “Of course you’re a loner, Akeel, you always share stories about how introverted you are.” And my response is “You’re…halfway there.” Yes, I am an introvert but when it comes to being alone it really depends on my mood and who’s around me. For example, I always want to be around my brother, Amari, as we’ve been together our entire lives due to being twins, but there are some days where I don’t need Amari around me. When it comes to other members of my family it’s the same way, however with friends and other people it’s a lot more different. Because my loneliness de...

What the Heck is Automatonophobia?

Akeel Dixon Mrs. Rodems Nonfiction Writing 4/15/2026 Prompt: What are your fears and phobias? What the Heck is Automatonophobia? Arachnophobia, Nyctophobia , and Achrophobia, are the fears of spiders, the dark/night, and heights, are common fears for many people. However, I have a fear called Automatonophobia and it is known as the fear of humanoid figures such as, mannequins, dolls, wax figures, and animatronics/robots. I undergo this fear when I see specifically humanoid figures like mannequins and dolls. Looking at who I am now, ever since I learned about this fear, it appears to stem from my fear of social anxiety when interacting with people. The earliest I remember having this fear as a child was when I would go to clothing stores with my mom, in order to buy school clothes for our family. Because clothing stores which have mannequins everywhere, I assumed they were catalysts for my phobia. And I remember having a specific dream when I was younger that mannequins had co...

The Happiness Money Brings for Everyone

Image
The Happiness Money Brings for Everyone By: Akeel Dixon How much money would it take for you to be happy? For me, I would require around a billion dollars. While this comes off as greedy initially, I reassure you this money goes to everyone for happiness on my accord. Famous billionaire, Elon Musk, claims “Whoever said “money can’t buy happiness” really knew what they were talking about”. I theorize his rationale comes from the fact he spends money on himself, instead of bettering the world. Many people on Earth are struggling, and if billionaires thought of providing public facilities and resources such as wells, food banks, libraries, and schools, then maybe the happiness of those who struggle is worth millions. You could also spend money towards friends and family who have been in your life. Acts of kindness towards others are usually met with a smile that is worth more than what any billionaire would spend their money on. The first thing I would do if I obtained an enormo...

The Credo That I Claim

Image
The Credo That I Claim By: Akeel Dixon Prompt:  What is your personal credo?     I have discerned that every person usually has a certain credo such as: “Live life to the fullest,” “Every person has evil inside them,” or “Practice makes progress.” I myself have never truly thought of a message that I decided to live by but I thought recently that it would be interesting to come up with one based on my thinking in the past and present. If I look into myself, something I live by would be, “Every decision that is made has a good consequence and a bad consequence.” I was first taught this lesson by my parents at a young age when they were teaching me to make good choices to avoid significant negative results. Whenever I get older I always look back on my life and specifically my choices, both good and bad. I notice many decisions I regret because of their negative drawbacks but some of them have allowed me to see some small benefits. This same cognizance also applies to good ...

An Insider Perspective on My "Helicopter Parents"

Image
An Insider Perspective on My "Helicopter Parents" By: Akeel Dixon Prompt: Do you have helicopter parents? My parents have been referred to as “helicopter parents” in the past and present. Most of these instances come from people who look at my family’s life from an outside perspective, and in my opinion come off as judgemental or uninformed. My mom and dad have done so much for me and I believe that without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today, they’re the people who take time out of their day to go to my events and make sure that I’m safe at a stranger’s house. I don’t understand why we use such a derogatory word for people who truly care about their child’s wellbeing. If I were to recall the first times my parents were looked down upon for supporting me they occurred throughout preschool and elementary school. I remember rushing over to hug them whenever they came to pick me up from school making other parents jealous, encouraging them to use the label. An instance oc...

The Objects That Made Me and Enhanced Me (Last One Was Bugged)

Image
The Objects That Made and Enhanced Me: By: Akeel Dixon Prompt: What objects tell the story of your life? Throughout my life, I have obtained a large number of objects. When I was really young, my favorite miniature toy was the space shuttle Endeavour, and my favorite book was The Snowy Day. In my elementary school years, I received Pokemon Cards/Beyblades and my preferred video game consoles: the Nintendo Switch and Wii. As I am now in my late teens, my prized objects are my Computer, Nintendo Switch 2 (how time flies), and the many books that I have acquired over the years, including books suited for my current age. I feel as though all these objects shaped who I am today as a person, a more “nerdy” person who wants to be a future astrophysicist.  The toy of the Endeavour Space Shuttle that I received when I was around the age of three or four was bought by my parents at a field trip I went on at the California Science Center. I...
